too much snow forces New Yorkers to be patient (on the sidewalk)

Mother Nature bitch slapped NYC this week. Naturally this pisses people off to an irrational level (but what doesn’t, if you’re not a Cranky New Yorker you’re WEAK and will get eaten by your kind). But!, I have noticed that the snow being everywhere has summoned up common courtesy from the bottomless pits that are CNY’s souls…and here’s why.

We all have to walk single file on the sidewalk.

Snow is piled up so high it’s unbelievable and not every sidewalk is shoveled because of degenerate store owners/apartment building tenants. What results is a very narrow, trodden path only large enough for one passerby at a time. So if you don’t want to walk in the street (taxi drivers will pretend you’re a pigeon) you have to do the single file shuffle. It’s really pretty cute…a line of 15-20 people looking like they’re playing “follow the leader”, facing off at the entrance to a one man snow lane with “you go…oh no no noooo, you go”. I’ve never seen this behavior in my life. What could make it even better? Everyone puts their peace signs in the air and shuts the eff up.
